I only recently picked up a bottle, but I knew right away that I wanted to make a negroni. If you have read anything at all about Campari, you will read the phrase "featured in the negroni and other cocktails." The negroni is what always gets top billing. It is a classic cocktail, dating back to 1919, but it still feels quite modern and sophisticated. It certainly is a bitter drink, but it is also sweet and herbal.
But here's a little something that makes me like this drink even more (and also reveals just how lazy/forgetful I am). The negroni involves equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth. Equal parts! That means I will always remember how to make this drink. Cheers to that.
Negroni
- 1 oz gin
- 1 oz Campari
- 1 oz sweet vermouth
- 1 orange twist
Stir gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth in a lowball glass. Stir in ice. Garnish with orange twist.
These photos are fantastic, and dear god do I love negronis.

This is a great apertif cocktail...It really cleanses the palate. It is definitely a taste that you need to get your tongue wrapped around.

Never tried this before, but looks very good from your photos! Can I have one please? ;)
ReplyDeleteI do love the Negroni! The husband had never tried Campari before I brought a bottle home recently and it was love at first sip. I wanted something with the sweet vermouth in the pantry and the negroni fit the bill exactly. So delicious! I really like to swipe the orange twist along the rim and garnish with an orange slice.
ReplyDeleteI've yet to have a Negroni, but I do love Campari...I have since my first taste! "Campari and soda with a twist", I told the bartender, and when I went to pay my tab he told me, "On the house! Anybody who drinks Campari deserves to have their tab paid!"
ReplyDeleteIf I liked it before, I LOVED it after that, LOL!
The bartender at our hotel in Montreal garnished mine with a small slice of pink grapefruit. Divine!
ReplyDeleteOh my, we had way too many Negronis when we visited Capri last year. Dangerous and delish!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots as always!
xoxo to you two,
