Citrus Margaritas

We’re getting ready for Cinco de Mayo by coming up with the perfect cocktail to celebrate. I think the Citrus Margarita is it. A blend of lime, orange, and grapefruit juice in this margarita creates a well rounded citrus bite.  Tangy like a traditional margarita, but balanced.

Our traditional cocktail reference book called for 1 oz lime juice, 1 oz tequila, and 2/3 oz triple sec.  We upped the juice content just a tad, with winning combo of 0.5oz each lime, grapefruit, and orange juices. We used Dulcie’s automatic citrus juicer thingy to squeeze the fresh juice. Many messes ensued. If I were to do this again I’d just squeeze everything by hand; you only need 1/2 ounce of each juice which is easy to do.

Then we took our Citrus Margaritas outside and enjoyed them in the sunny backyard while plotting our Cinco de Mayo plans.  They involve a variety of salsas and homemade tortilla chips…!

Citrus Margarita

  • 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • 1/2 oz grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz tequila
  • 2/3 oz triple sec
Combine all, pour over ice, and serve with a salted rim.  We used kosher salt for its big flaky salt crystals.
